> ERA Mourns Steve Ross

Photo of Steve Ross.

With deep sadness, ERA must report the March 8 passing of Steve Ross, a long-time northern California rep firm owner and past national officer of this association. He was 79.

Steve earned a BSEE degree from Purdue University where he was four-year ROTC member. After graduation, he served as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army providing logistical support to the 82nd Airborne Division.

In 1970, he joined the northern California rep firm that his father had founded in 1947 and spent the next 31 years in sales and management, eventually becoming the firm’s second generation owner. Throughout his career, he was an active volunteer in the electronics industry, including his tenures as president of the Electronic Distribution Show Board and chairman of the WESCON trade show. For ERA, he held many offices in the Northern California Chapter, served on the national executive committee as senior vice president/membership and was an ERA trustee on the board of the Manufacturers’ Representatives Educational Research Foundation (MRERF).

He was also inducted into the ERA White Pin Group in 1984, was among the first reps to earn the Certified Professional Manufacturers’ Representative (CPMR) designation, and was awarded Life Membership in ERA upon his retirement from the rep business in 2001. Steve filled his later years with many types of volunteer work in educational and community settings as well as with the Palo Alto University Rotary Club. His survivors include his wife Karen, their two children and spouses, and two grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family will appreciate memorial donations to Child Advocates of Silicon Valley (https://childadvocatessv.org) or Mission Hospice (https://www.missionhospice.org).
