Manufacturing Data Reports
Manufacturing data reports from the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) are released on or about the first of every month and can be accessed at ISM. The June 1 report says economic activity in the manufacturing sector contracted in May, and the overall economy returned to expansion after one month of contraction. Also, of the 18 manufacturing industries included in the report, the computer and electronic products sector was one of 11 industries reporting contraction in April.
The worldwide Ethernet switch market recorded $6.16 billion in revenue in the first quarter of 2020, a decrease of 8.9 percent year over year. According to IDC, the negative impact of COVID-19 on both the Ethernet switch and router markets is expected to continue in the second quarter of 2020. Read more at IDC.
The global education sector is expected to see rising Chromebook demand in 2020. The demand is driven by schools worldwide that have begun adopting online learning in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. Read more at DigiTimes.
Six semiconductor companies expect an increase in their second quarter 2020 sales, IC Insights reported, while 15 companies anticipate flat or declining sales. Collectively, the 21 companies on the list anticipate a sequential sales decline of 5 percent in the second quarter of 2020. Read more at EPSNews.
Worldwide sales of semiconductors were $34.4 billion for the month in April 2020, 1.2 percent less than March, but 6.1 percent more than the April 2019 total of $32.4 billion, according to the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA). Read more at NewElectronics.
