Monthly POS Reports
Budde Marketing, which provides monthly POS Index reports to ERA members, has issued its latest summary, running from January 2018 through September 2019. Visit era.org to view the new index. According to the new report, September 2019 bounced back from the previous four months and showed a 6 percent increase over the September 2018 POS numbers. September 2019 also was the second best month of the year, and 3 percent above the index. This year, however, is still collectively just 1 percent over 2018. The market for 5G technologies and services that will use 5G is poised to generate $13.2 trillion in global sales activity by 2035, according to a study from Qualcomm Technologies. The study estimates that the 5G value chain will support 22.3 million jobs in 2035 — more than three times as many jobs as it supports today. Read more at Electronics360.
Sales in the global DRAM market grew 4.1 percent sequentially to $15.45 billion in the third quarter of 2019, following three quarters of sequential drops, according to DRAMeXchange. Looking into the fourth quarter, DRAM makers are expected to see their shipments climb further thanks to growing demand for servers and smartphones. Read more at DigiTimes.
Worldwide silicon wafer area shipments totaled 2,932 million square inches in the third quarter of 2019, down 1.7 percent from the 2,983 million square inches shipped in the second quarter of the year and 9.9 percent lower than shipments during the same period in 2018, according to SEMI. “Ongoing geopolitical tensions and the overall economic slowdown have negatively impacted silicon demand for the year,” said Neil Weaver, chairman of SEMI SMG and VP of Product Development and Applications Engineering at Shin Etsu Handotai America.
