Monthly POS Reports

Budde Marketing, which provides monthly POS Index reports to ERA members, issued its latest summary, running from January 2019 through September 2021. Visit era.org to view the new index. According to the latest report, September 2021 was the seventh straight month where POS activity was 20 percent ahead of the January 2019 Index base point. Comparing month over month for the past couple of years, September activity was 16 percent over 2019 and 23 percent over 2020. In addition, the first nine months of 2021 are cumulatively 22 percent ahead of the same time period in 2020. The strong recovery is expected to continue through the end of the year. INDUSTRY NEWS

Semiconductor and IC packaging shortages are expected to extend through the end of 2022. However, after a period of shortages in all segments there are some signs that chip supply may return to relative normalcy by mid-2022. Read more at SemiconductorEngineering.

Global sales of optoelectronics, sensors/actuators and discretes (O-S-D) are expected to grow 18 percent in 2021 to $104.3 billion from $88.3 billion in 2020, when this semiconductor market group increased by less than 3 percent. Total O-S-D sales are forecast to rise 11 percent in 2022 to $115.5 billion. Read more at SemiMedia.

Worldwide artificial intelligence (AI) software revenue is forecast to total $62.5 billion in 2022, an increase of 21.3 percent from 2021. According to Gartner, the top five use case categories for AI software spending in 2022 will be knowledge management, virtual assistants, autonomous vehicles, digital workplace and crowdsourced data. ERA announced Day 1 General Sessions topics and speakers at the ERA Conference, scheduled Feb. 27 – March 1, 2022, in Austin, Texas. Bernard Baumohl, chief global economist, will present the Monday, Feb. 28 morning session — “The Great Transition.” And Jason Dorsey, acclaimed generational researcher and bestselling author, will close out the Monday conference program with a presentation on “Crossing the Generational Divide: Unexpected Discoveries and New Actions to Inspire and Bridge Generations.” Read more at ERAConference.

ERA congratulates the graduates of its 2021 Chapter Officers Leadership Training (COLT) program, held virtually Nov. 3 – 5, 2021. ​​The COLT program featured three days of interactive training. Nineteen leaders from 13 different chapters attended the event, which included an opening remarks video by Phil Gallagher, CEO of Avnet; COLT online manual review; a walk through the ERA website; mock chapter event planning workshops; and a presentation by legal counsel to ERA, Gerald M.
