Manufacturing Data Reports
Manufacturing data reports from the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) are released at the beginning of every month and can be accessed at ISM. The latest report says economic activity in the manufacturing sector grew in August with the overall economy notching a 15th consecutive month of growth. Of the 18 manufacturing industries included in the report, the computer and electronic products sector was the strongest of the 15 industries reporting growth in August.
The chip industry will need to double its production capacity in the next eight to 10 years to address shortages and growing government concerns over supply chain security, according to Nikkei Asia, GlobalFoundries CEO Tom Caulfield. He pointed out that recently, geopolitics have made the industry aware of the importance of semiconductors, especially semiconductor manufacturing, to supply chain security, sovereignty security and economic security. Total North American EMS shipments in July 2021 were down 2.9 percent compared to the same month last year. Compared to the preceding month, July shipments fell 26.3 percent. According to Shawn DuBravac, IPC’s chief economist, “The electronics industry continues to be bogged down by supply chain disruptions, raw material lead times remain long and shortages are hindering production and delaying shipments.” Read more at EPSNews.
The Exponential Technology Group (XTG), a member of the TTI Family of Specialists, announced the acquisition of Paragon Innovations, a privately held engineering design services firm headquartered in Richardson, Texas. The company will continue to operate as Paragon Innovations and company founder Michael Wilkinson will remain in charge of the business as vice president and general manager reporting to XTG President, Michael Knight.
