Who Is Eligible

The ERA Mentoring Program is open to:

  • Active ERA members across manufacturers, distributors, and manufacturers representatives
  • Professionals with approximately 7+ years of industry experience
  • Individuals who are committed to supporting the development of others and advancing the profession
  • Members who are willing to share knowledge, experience, and perspective to strengthen the broader industry

The program is designed for experienced professionals who are motivated to give back, support emerging talent, and contribute to the continued growth and professionalism of the electronics industry.

 

Mentor Expectations

The ERA Mentoring Program is most impactful when mentors are engaged, present, and committed to the relationship.

Mentors are expected to:

Commit to Consistent Engagement

Participate in the full six-month program
Meet with their mentee twice per month (approximately one hour per meeting)
Prioritize mentoring and remain reasonably available between meetings

Share Knowledge and Industry Experience

Provide guidance grounded in real-world experience
Share relevant resources, insights, and best practices
Offer perspective on navigating challenges within the industry

Support Mentee Growth and Development

Help mentees think through challenges rather than simply providing answers
Offer constructive, honest, and actionable feedback
Encourage accountability, goal-setting, and follow-through

Model Professionalism and Integrity

Demonstrate ethical behavior, honesty, and respect in all interactions
Maintain confidentiality and honor the trust within the mentoring relationship
Represent the industry and ERA community with professionalism

Demonstrate Strong Communication and Presence

Show up prepared, engaged, and fully present
Practice active listening and thoughtful questioning
Create a safe, respectful space for open dialogue

Foster Connection and Industry Perspective

Help mentees expand their understanding of the industry ecosystem
Encourage relationship-building across manufacturers, distributors, and representatives
Support the development of a collaborative and connected professional community

Mentoring Best Practices

To maximize the impact of the mentoring relationship:

  • Listen first, guide second — prioritize understanding before advising
  • Ask open-ended questions that promote reflection and independent thinking
  • Share experiences and lessons learned rather than prescribing solutions
  • Balance support with constructive challenge
  • Reinforce accountability by revisiting goals and progress
  • Create a space grounded in trust, respect, and professionalism
  • Adapt your approach based on the mentee’s goals and experience level
  • Encourage ethical decision-making and strong professional standards

Program Completion

To be considered an active and successful participant in the ERA Mentoring Program, mentors should:

  • Maintain engagement throughout the six-month program
  • Participate in regular mentoring meetings (recommended twice per month)
  • Provide consistent guidance, feedback and support
  • Demonstrate professionalism, integrity and commitment to the mentoring relationship
Successful participation reflects a commitment to developing others while upholding the standards, collaboration, and professionalism that define the ERA community.
